"Dr Sheerin is a Health Economist and convenor of the Masters of Public Health programme at the University of Otago, New Zealand, who is on sabbatical in the Southwest.  He is descended from New Zealand Maori who are the indigenous people of New Zealand, and has an extensive background in health care, including working as a hospital manager for many years, a corporate services manager, before returning to complete a PhD in public health.  His research interests have included mental health, alcohol and Drugs, indigenous health, avoidable hospital admissions, cardiovascular risk factors and diabetes."
