Peter Conrad, Ph.D. is a Harry Coplan Professor of Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology at Brandeis University. This lecture will consider the origins and consequences of the increased medicalization of society using specific examples.  It will examine how medicalization manifests itself in many quarters and where there is both support of and resistance to medicalized diagnoses and treatments.  The lecture will also present emerging areas of medicalization and speculate on the future of medicalized responses to human conditions.
