Dr. William Wiese Honored with NMPHA Larrazolo Achievement Award

Dr. William Wiese Honored by New Mexico Public Health Association

Dr. William Wiese, Visiting Professor in the UNM Department of Family and Community Medicine; and Associate Director and Senior Fellow, RWJF Center for Health Policy, was honored by the New Mexico Public Health Association on April 28 with their Larrazolo Achievement Award, recognizing his many years of public health service to New Mexicans. The Larrazolo Award is given to individuals who have made lifetime contributions to public health service and who have made a major impact locally, statewide and nationally. The Larrazolo Award was named after New Mexico's fourth governor Octaviano Larrazolo, the state's first Hispanic governor and later U.S. Senator, who established a state health board in response to the influenza epidemic raging worldwide at that time. That state board eventually became today's NM Department of Health.
